Description
Special Education teacher for the Lakeland School District works within the secondary level to facilitate the instruction and participation of students with disabilities in the general and special education setting. The work includes the use of evidence-based assessment and intervention practices in the prevention, assessment, intervention, and program design efforts that are integrated within the school.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Work closely with specialist teachers, regular education teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school psychologists, audiologists, guidance counselors, social workers, and others.
• Work with school and district administrators in designing and implementing programs.
• Evidence-based decision-making and accountability, including gathering and interpreting data with individual students, as well as overall program evaluation.
• Facilitating student access to general curricular and extra-curricular activity
• Developing individual and/or group instruction to meet the diverse needs of students
• Provide transitional support in inclusive/integrated learning environments
• Assist in the development of and provide continued support with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Develop and implement Behavioral Intervention Plans and track data on behaviors.
• Re-evaluate IEPs when appropriate
• Family-school collaboration
• Maintain knowledge of legal, ethical and professional practices in compliance with federal and state mandates, as well as local policies concerning performance
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required:

• PA certification in Special Education, PK-8 (9226); 7-12 (9227); or PK-12 (9231)
• Knowledge of special education practices including identification of students with disabilities, IEP development, re-evaluation, transition, and parent rights

Preferred:

• Experience with research-based instructional practices associated with students with Autism, Emotional Disturbance, Other Health Impaired, and Specific Learning Disability.
• Experience in development and implementation of Individualized Educational Plans (IEP)
• Excellent oral and verbal communication skills.
