Our English Language Arts Curriculum is a locally developed curriculum that is aligned to the PA Core standards in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.  We believe that the teaching of these standards is a shared responsibility within our district, and is not limited to our ELA classes.  Through our collaborative efforts we continue to identify the best ways to expose students to a diverse array of both classic and contemporary literature, and challenging informational texts across a range of subjects.  We teach students to cite evidence from the texts they read to answer questions and to develop evidence-based written and verbal responses.  In addition to our reading instruction, we also teach our students how to use the writing process to write with conviction for varied purposes and audiences.  We provide explicit instruction regarding the features of varied genres and immerse students in genre units of study.  We utilize mentor texts as exemplars for students, and allow them time to practice and refine their own writing craft.

While our ELA Curriculum is composed of a myriad of sources, some of the foundational resources our teachers utilize are Wilson Fundations, Pearson Reading Streets, Great Minds Wit and Wisdom, Achieve the Core Read Aloud Project, Achieve the Core Basal Alignment Project, and Collaborative Classroom Being a Writer.
