Lakeland School District values a strong partnership with families to support meaningful learning experiences while safeguarding students’ privacy and personal information. To enhance instruction, the District utilizes a variety of third-party educational websites and digital tools. In order for students to access these services, limited personally identifiable information—typically a student’s name and email address—may be required.
Under the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), websites are required to provide notice to parents and obtain parental consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13. COPPA permits school districts to provide this consent on behalf of their students, eliminating the need for parents or guardians to grant consent directly to each individual website. The District maintains a list of approved educational websites used in Lakeland classrooms. Each listed resource includes a link to its privacy policy, which explains how student information is collected, used, and protected.
As curriculum and technology needs evolve, this list is reviewed and updated regularly. Families are encouraged to check back periodically for the most current information.
Parents and guardians have the right to opt out of specific website resources. If you do not wish for your child to access a particular resource, please complete and email the opt-out form to your child’s building principal. If you later choose to reverse this decision at any point during the school year, please contact the principal directly.
If you have questions regarding COPPA or the District’s use of educational technology, please contact Jeff Price, Director of Technology, at (570) 954-9485 ext. 1020 or [email protected].
